SB 1240 is on the gov’s desk, waiting for a signature after passing 6 hearings and Conference Committee. It was like bumper cars with heads instead of cars, with DLNR banging away to protect the aquarium trade.
DLNR defends the aquarium trade and vested interests–and Hawaii’s conflicted interest in aquarium extraction over the years. DLNR defaults to extraction on the basis of “no data” as data from around the world shows the critical role of herbivores. DLNR today touts “herbivore protection” for parrotfish, failing again to mention any other herbivore species taken by the millions to feed the voracious aquarium trade. CRUNCH TIME!
DLNR deadline! Call GOVERNOR DAVID IGE: (808) 586-0034.
SB 1240 will end State-issued aquarium collector permits when he signs it into law and DLNR/DAR WILL define sustainable in a context other than bottom-line revenue.

GIVE David Ige the encouragement he needs to sign SB 1240 into law!
