We approach Committee Conference on SB 1240 HD1, to end aquarium permitting in Hawaii with a freeze on existing permits, pending a clean management plan that excludes aquarium trade interests.
THE CRUX of the matter is content—will SB 1240 have meaning or not? HD1 is the correct version in House language. Senate Water & Land Chair Karl Rhoads may seek to gut that language.
Karl Rhoads ended the aquarium ban campaign in 2015 as House Judiciary Chair and said, “We have so much opposition to this bill.” That opposition was mainland aquarium trade profiteers—it’s a $4-5 billion industry that needs reef wildlife to drive sales of tanks, stands, lights, filters, pumps, tubes, chemicals, and so on.
ONLY MAINLAND INTERESTS oppose SB 1240 HD1. No Hawaii reef stakeholders and no pono priorities, politics and principles oppose SB 1240 HD1.
PLEASE ENCOURAGE AND SUPPORT SENATOR KARL RHOADS TO PASS SB 1240 HD 1, TO DENY MAINLAND PROFITEERS AND REEF WILDLIFE TRAFFICKERS, TO STOP DLNR IN ITS CONFLICTED, CORRUPT, BUREAUCRATIC QUAGMIRE CALLED “AN AQUARIUM PROGRAM.”
TELL SENATOR KARL RHOADS THAT YOU CARE! Urge Senator Karl Rhoads to BELIEVE!
